“The sweet smell of Love in the morning”
Jon and Liz met in an art program at a local college in St. Louis. Their unique personalities and artistic talents drew them to each other. Over the next several years their relationship grew as they encouraged each other in their studies, dreams and daily lives.
Knowing that there was no one else he wanted to continue his creative journey with, Jon set his proposal plan into motion. Wanting the engagement ring to be something truly original, special, and as artistic as their relationship was, Jon asked Liz’s former jewelry professor if she would be willing to make an engagement ring for Liz. She was elated by his request and agreed to do it.
Jon set out to find the perfect stone that was as special as his soon-to-be fiancé, a black diamond. Liz’s former professor began work on this truly unique ring. Jon waited with great anticipation, which a handmade ring like this takes meticulous crafting and time. Nearly a year later he had the ring and was eager to pop the question, but how?
Jon and Liz had a simple morning ritual where each morning the first to wake up would make coffee for the both of them. One black, the other a splash of milk and a small spoonful of sugar. Any coffee drinker knows a gesture like this is true love.
On the day after he received the ring, Jon was the first to wake. Having spent an entire year thinking of how he’d ask her, and with the ring burning a hole in his pocket, he decided to be spontaneous as he couldn’t bear to wait any longer. He snuck the ring box from its hiding spot and slipped it into his pocket and grabbed their mugs.
Jon made his way to the bedroom, quietly placed his coffee on the nightstand and offered her the other mug. She slowly took the coffee with her eyes barely open. And he asked, “Will you marry me?” His hands now presenting the open ring box.
Having yet to take a sip of her morning wake-up fuel, she was caught completely off guard and could only muster one dazed response, “What?”
She immediately realized this was in fact, for real. And took it all in with a joyful smile that grew on her face and exclaimed, “Yes!”
All their family and friends were elated for the happy couple and joined them on a bright Sunny day in September to witness their union.
