As a wedding planner I love learning how couples met and when they knew their fiancé was, “the one”. The response often surprises the others and adds to their unique story and is a loving testament to their relationship.
My husband, Brendan and I have been together for almost nine awesome years! A little over a year after we started dating, I had my ” he’s the one” moments.
We flew to Seattle to celebrate Christmas with his large family. I had a fantastic time meeting and hanging out with all of them. We helped Brendan’s mother prepare for their famous Christmas Eve dinner. Which was a lot like that of a small wedding reception. This was right up my alley, and I loved every exhausting minute. Seeing all our hard work pay off with all the smiling faces, including Brendan’s father, brought me joy.
That was the first moment I realized Brendan was the one. You see his father has Multiple Sclerosis and needs a lot of help doing daily tasks. Watching Brendan helping take care of him during our trip melted my heart and brought tears to my eyes. When his dad called for help Brendan without hesitation came to his aid. I loved sitting with Brendan, his mom and dad and watching them talk and laugh together. I fell more in love with him in those moments.
That love turned into unabashed adoration within the course of a few days. Less than a week after that first moment we decided to join his extended family at the Seattle Space Needle to see the Chihuly Garden of Glass exhibit. As I was snapping photos of the needle through the center of the hanging glass garland, I turned around to find neither Brendan nor his cousins behind me.
As I stood rather puzzled, I heard the soft murmurs of voices below me. I looked down to find Brendan and his cousins laying on the floor looking up at the glass garland and needle talking about what they saw.
My heart fluttered seeing this and how attentive he was to the boys and their questions I knew then and there that Brendan was a man after my own heart and who I had dreamed of spending my life with. He was undoubtedly “my one”.
