Congratulations on your engagement! Let’s take a moment to pop some bubbly and celebrate! Getting engaged is a huge milestone for your love story, and wedding planning should be a fun season for you and all involved in the wedding planning process. You may be wondering where to begin, so here are the first steps to planning your wedding! We’ll start with the first 3 things I recommend each engaged couple do, and then go from there.
The first step in the wedding planning process is to sit down as a couple and have a conversation about three key wedding planning topics.
First, establish who is involved in the decision-making process. Throughout the wedding planning journey, you will be faced with countless decisions. Where will the wedding take place? How many people will be invited? What is the overall vibe of the day?
As you begin to think about all the initial considerations, you’ll also want to figure out your overall budget. Be sure to include key players, be it parents, grandparents, etc. in your budget conversion to ensure you have all the information needed to set your maximum wedding budget. Knowing your budget is essential to booking your wedding venue, planner, and other vendors.
Lastly, make time to sit down together to discuss the elements you both feel are the top priorities for the wedding day. Perhaps your top priority is the food… or maybe it’s having a live band. No matter what, it’s important to keep in mind the must-haves as you begin to work through your budget and plan your wedding day.
Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life and I believe you should be able to enjoy it! Like your engagement, your wedding day happens only once, and it will be over in the blink of an eye! So why not hire someone who will help ensure that the planning process is fun and stress free? As a wedding planner I help guide you along the decision-making process based on your love story, priorities and budget. I also help you mediate between different opinions while keeping you and your vision in focus. Plus, hiring a planner allows you and your loved ones to be fully present on the wedding day!
The third thing I recommend couples do after getting engaged is to determine your VIPs – your loved ones you can’t imagine your wedding day without. Share your date and venue ideas with them to ensure they can attend! Being transparent with your inner circle is a great step towards ensuring they’re all able to make it to your wedding day.
All in all, enjoy this amazing time of being engaged! Wedding planning tasks can quickly become overwhelming, but I encourage you to take a step back and a moment to breathe before diving in too deeply.
